Alejandro Roy makes his Metropolitan Opera Debut this season as Calaf in Turnadot

Other engagements include Pollione at Bilbao Opera, Don Carlo at Kopparberg (Opera pa Skaret), Don José at Oviedo Opera, Radames at Teatro Cervantes in Málaga and Canio at Szczecin Festival. He was also at The Metropolitan Opera for covering the roles of Cavaradossi and Dick Johnson

Since his debut as Tonio in La fille du régiment at the Teatro de la Zarzuela of Madrid he has performed in some of the most relevant Spanish and European theatres. He started performing as a light tenor with easy top in roles as Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Elvino in La sonnambula, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Gennaro in Lucrezia Borgia or Orombello in Beatrice di Tenda.

Other roles include Macduff in Macbeth, the title role in Don Carlo, Ismaele in Nabucco, Alfredo in La Traviata, Giacomo VII in Giovanna d’Arco, Don José in Carmen, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Roberto in Le Villi, Calaf in Turandot Rodolfo in La Bohème, Pollione in Norma and more recently made his debut as Turiddu and Canio in Cavalleria rusticana & Pagliacci in the same night.

In the Zarzuela and Spanish opera repertoire he has performed main roles in titles such as Doña Francisquita, El gato montés, Luisa Fernanda, La Tabernera del Puerto, La bruja, El huésped del sevillano, Los gavilanes, La del Soto del Parral, La leyenda del beso, Marina, El dúo de la Africana or Curro Vargas.

In 2014 he was awarded at the 9th edition of the Premios Líricos Teatro Campoamor with the prize for the best Spanish opera singer for his performances of the opera Curro Vargas.

He has recently starred as Rafael in Spanish opera El gato montés at Teatro de la Zarzuela, and as Don José in Carmen at the Grand Theatre in Xianmen (China).

Born in Asturias (Spain), tenor Alejandro Roy studied in Florence with the great mezzosoprano Fedora Barbieri.
