Angel Odena - Baritone

His great versatility as a singer has led him to a wide spectrum of musical styles, including a considerable amount of oratorio and vocal symphony, but he is at his very best in opera. His debut was in 1994 in La Bohème in the TeatroPetruzelli in Bari; the beginning of a career which now includes more than fifty operas. Bel canto operas by Rossini include: Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Lisbon, Hamburg, Peralada, Valencia), La Cenerentola (Hamburg, Palma de Mallorca) Il Viaggio a Reims (Barcelona, recorded on DVD) and L’Italiana in Algeri (Limoges). By Donizzetti he has sung l’Elisird’Amore (Jerez, Hamburg and Barcelona), Anna Bolena (Hamburg, with EditaGruberova), Maria Stuarda (Barcelona, again with Gruberova), Don Pasquale (Palma de Mallorca), La Favorita (Elda), Lucia di Lammermoor (Barcelona, Amsterdam-Concertgebouw and Lausanne), Il Duca d’Alba (Oviedo) and Roberto Devereux (Madrid -Teatro Real-).

Classical operas include: Haydn’s L’isoladisabitata, (Lisbon) and Mozart’s, Magic Flute (Barcelona), Don Giovanni (La Coruña) and Così fan tutte (Barcelona). French opera includes: Roméo et Juliette (Sabadell), Faust (Seville), Samson et Dalila (Bologna), Werther (Teatro Real de Madrid), Thaïs (Oviedo and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) and one of his favourite personalities: Escamillo, from the ever popular Carmen, in Jerez, Palermo, Toulouse, Cap Roig, San Sebastian, Orange, l’Arena di Verona, this one conducted by P.Domingo, Málaga and Barcelona.

Àngel Òdena´s vocal and acting skills are particularly suited to Giacomo Puccini´s operas, having sung Turandot in Hamburg and in the reinauguration of the Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona, Madama Butterfly (Hamburg, Seville, Madrid, Lausanne, Florence and Barcelona -Liceu-), La Bohème (Bari, Barcelona and Naples, conducted by NelloSanti, Córdoba), Le Villi (Oviedo and Théâtre des Champs-Élysées -París-), Il Tabarro (Liceu), Manon Lescaut (Las Palmas, Deustchoper Berlin) and Tosca (Oviedo). He has also sung other Verismo classics, Cavalleria Rusticana / and Pagliacci (Malaga, Lleida, las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées -París-, Barcelona -Liceu- with the roles as Silvio and Tonio, and Madrid, which was edited on DVD in the Teatro Real).

Opera is nothing without Verdi, one of his favourite composers, and he has sung: Falstaff (Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Bilbao, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Maó and Madrid), La Traviata (Liceu, Teatro Real, San Sebastián, El Escorial, Tarragona, Madrid, Teatro de La Zarzuela conducted by Alberto Zedda), Un Ballo in Maschera (Oviedo), Simon Boccanegra (Teatro Real de Madrid, Berlin and Liceu), Otello (Palma de Mallorca, Sevilla and Teatro Real de Madrid), Don Carlo (T. Maestranza, Sevilla, El Escorial), Il Trovatore (Metropolitan Opera House of New York) Aida (Liceu and Teatro Real de Madrid), Macbeth (Córdoba and Lisboa), Attila (Bilbao), Nabucco (Teatro San Carlos de Lisboa) and Rigoletto (Gran Teatre del Liceu and Naples).

German repertoire includes Elektra (Toulouse and Seville), Lohengrin (Turin, Barcelona, Bilbao, La Coruña and Salamanca), Rhinegold (Madrid), Tannhäuser (Oviedo) and Tristan und Isolde (Las Palmas). He has also performed Il Segreto di Susanna by Wolf Ferrari (recorded on CD) and Oedipus Rex by Stravinsky (Valencia, Bilbao and Peralada). Also he has participated in a CD recording of La Integral de Canciones para canto y piano de A. Garcia Abril.

In the Teatro Real in Madrid he has participated in a series of lyrical compositions by Spanish composers, for example: Margarita la Tornera (by Chapí, recorded on CD), Merlin (by Albéniz, on DVD), La Dolores (by Bretón, on DVD), La conquista di Granata (by Arrieta, on CD), Luisa Fernanda (by Moreno Torroba) also interpreted in Sevilla and Miami (Florida Grand Opera) and Alfano’s El Cyrano with P. Domingo. In the same line he has also performed El Gato Montés de Penella (Teatro de la Zarzuela de Madrid, Palau de les Arts de Valencia), Atlántida (by Falla, in Granada, Liceu and Valencia with Teresa Berganza), Pepita Jiménez (by Albéniz, in Peralada and Montpellier), Katiuska (by Sorozábal, in Bilbao and Madrid, on DVD), El Hijo Finjido (by Rodrigo, in Madrid), Una voce in off and El Gato con Botas (both by Monsalvatge, in Barcelona, recorded on CD), Pan y Toros (by Barbieri, in Oviedo), the opera Goyescas (by Granados, in Venice, Savonlinna and Lleida) and El Caserío (Teatro Arriaga, Bilbao). He has sung Indovina (Palau de la Música de Valencia), Marina (Teatro de la Zarzuela de Madrid), El Gato Montés (Sevilla, Oviedo and Lisboa), Juan José and La Tabernera del puerto -Sorozábal- and La Villana -A.Vives- (Teatro de la Zarzuela de Madrid). Òdena recorded a CD of La Vida Breve de Falla by Deutsche Grammophon, with the subsequent concert in Granada and Toulouse.
