FABIAN VELOZ – baritone
Argentine baritone Fabian Veloz made his professional debut in the South American premiere of Luis Bakalov’s opera Estaba la Madre at the Teatro Argentino in La Plata followed by Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro Aveniva in Buenos Aires which earned him the ESTIMULO Award from the Music Critics Association of Argentina in 2009. Since then he has become one of the most important figures of his generation of the Argentina lyric scene interpreting the main roles of his voice type in Don Pasquale, Carmina Burana, Il Trovatore, EugeneOnegin and La Traviata at the Teatro Avenida and Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Giovanni, Madama Butterfly, Rigoletto, Faust, Tristan un Isolde, Francesa Da Rimini, I Pagliacci, Don Carlo and Tosca at the Teatro Argentino. He has also sung frequently in San Juan as Macbeth, Tonio in I Pagliacci, Rodrigo in Don Carlos, and Scarpia in Tosca.
Fabian Veloz made his Teatro Colon debut was as Germont in La Traviata for the theatre’s centenary celebration and he has since returned as both Paolo and Boccanegra in Simon Boccanegra, Foscari in I due Foscari, Carlo in La Forza del Destino, Iago in Otello, Count Almaviva inLe noze di Figaro. Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera and Oedipe by Enescu.
Other performances for Fabian Veloz include Nabucco for his European debut in Split, Croatia, Macbeth and Nabucco in Trieste, Black el Payaso and I Pacliacci in Madrid and Ezio in Attila, Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde at the Teatro Bellas Artes in Mexico City and Black the Clown and Canio in I Pagliacci in Madrid. .
This season’s engagements include Iago in Otello at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile, Ford in Falstaff at the Teatro Colon, Rigoletto in Modena and Trento, Goyescas in Torino and Rigoletto in Opera Omaha for his US debut and Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor at the MET.
Future engagements see him as Iago in Otello atthe Teatro Argentino in La Plata, Canio in I Pagliacci and Di Posa in Don Carlo at the Teatro Colon.
Fabian Veloz won the audience prize of the Competition dell’ Opera in Dresden and was selected by the ISATC to perform in a concert at the Americas Society in New York.
Fabian Veloz began his musical studies at the Municipal School of Arts and Language Education in his native Argentina taking voice with Shirley Ocampos. In 2005 enrolled as a student at the Conservatorio Provincial Gilardo Gilardi (La Plata City) in Classical Singing with Daniel Zuppa and M° Juan Pablo Scafidi in Repertoire. In 2007 he was admitted as an advanced voice student at the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón (ISATC), studying with Lucía Boero (Vocal Technique) and M° Bruno Dastoli.
