Lana Kos - Soprano
Lana Kos made her debut in April, 2002 at age of 17 at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb as Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Thanks to the specific colour and three octave range of her voice; great ease and sovereignty of her singing, Lana immediately revealed herself as a young artist with the potential of becoming a great one. The quality of her voice was recognized by the famous Mstislav Rostropovich who chose Lana for the lead role of Natasha Rostova in a new production of War and Peace by Sergei Prokofiev at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. In 2006 she was invited for a four year engagement at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich as the youngest soloist interpreting many roles and working with world renowned conductors such as Kent Nagano, Marco Armiliato, Nicola Luisotti, Julian Kovachev, Fabio Luisi, Kirill Petrenko and Danielle Gatti.
In 2008 Lana sang the lead role in Příhodi liški Bistrouški by Leoš Janáček at the Israeli Oper in Tel Aviv. The same year she recorded the role of Madame Cortese in Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims at the Wexford Festival in Ireland. In 2009 for the first time she sang the role of Violetta Valéry in Verdi’s La Traviata at the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor where she also signed a two-year contract as a leading soloist. In Maribor she sang two major roles: Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème (conducted by Marko Letonja and directed by Janusz Kica) and Juliette in Romeo et Juliette by Charles Gounod (directed by Damir Zlatar – Frey and conducted by Benjamin Pionnier). In April 2010 Lana interpreted the role of Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti at the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka (conducted by Niksa Bareza and directed by Damir Zlatar – Frey) for which she was awarded by the Croatian Theatre. The international career of Lana Kos began in 2011 with her performance at the festival at the Verona arena (Arena di Verona) as Violetta Valéry, conducted by Carlo Rizzi, directed by renowned Argentinean director, set and costume designer Hugo de Ana, with whom she had previously, in Maribor created her first Violetta.
In February, 2012 she sang Violetta in a new production of La Traviata at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, conducted by Bruno Bartoletti and directed by Henning Brockhaus. In April she sang at Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb – Queen of the night, Mozart, Magic flute . In July Lana Kos performed at the Israeli Opera Festival at Masada as Micaela in a new production of Bizet’s Carmen, directed by Giancarlo del Monaco and conducted by Daniel Oren. In August, with the ensemble of Arena di Verona she sang concerts in Nürnberg, Munich and in Macerata at the grand concert held in honour of the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Mario del Monaco. In October, 2012 she created a wonderful interpretation of Manon in Puccini’s opera Manon Lescaut at the Greece State Opera in Athens, directed by the Giancarlo del Monaco.
In 2013 Lana Kos sang the role of Desdemona in Otello by Giuseppe Verdi at the NCPA Opera Beijing. Only one month later she sang as Violetta Valéry in Verdi´s La traviata in Tel Aviv directed by Andrei Žagars and conducted by David Stern. This is Lana’s second visit to the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv. The summer of 2013 was once again reserved for the festival Arena di Verona where Lana Kos interpreted her favourite heroine Violetta Valéry of Verdi´s La Traviata conducted by Andrea Batisttoni and directed by Hugo De Ana. In early autumn 2013, Lana Kos sang Violetta Valéry in Guangzhou (China) conducted by maestro Daniel Oren in a production of the Royal Opera House in London´s Covent Garden.
In 2014 Lana Kos performed in Palermo as Desdemona in a new production of Verdi’s Otello, she made her debut in the title role of Verdi´s Luisa Miller in Lausanne and and also made her debut in São Paulo, Brasil as Micaela. She performed in Gounod’s opera Romeo and Giulietta at the Festival Arena di Verona with tenor Vittorio Grigolo and as Desdemona at NCPA Beijing. Lana performed with Zeljko Lucic at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival closing concert “Verdi Gala” on August 25th.
Lana´s schedule in 2015 consists of Verdi´s Desdemona in São Paulo, La traviata at the Royal Opera Stockholm, Rosina in Rossini´s Il barbiere di Sivigla at The Avenches Opera Festival, Puccini´s La bohème (Musetta) in Palermo and at Opera Naples in Florida as Mimì, Donna Anna in Beijing and her Amelia debut in Simone Boccanegra in the Toscana circuit (Pisa, Lucca, Livorno).
In 2016 Lana Kos will be singing the role of Luisa Miller (Giuseppe Verdi) in April 2016, Teatro Real Madrid.
