MAURIZIO BARBACINI – conductor
Maurizio Barbacini is one of today’s most sought-after opera conductors. In a distinguished career, he has appeared with many of the world’s great opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera New York, Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Komische Oper Berlin. In addition, he has held positions as Principal Conductor of the Finnish National Opera, Principal Guest Conductor of the Stockholm Opera and Principal Conductor of the Opera Company of Philadelphia.
Upcoming engagements for the 2013/14 seasion include Tosca with Vlaamse Opera and Werther with Frankfurt Opera, while recent engagements have included Spoleto Festival USA with Le Villi and Il Mese Mariano, and Otello at Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti in Modena and at Teatri Comunali in Piacenza.

Maurizio Barbacini has made a number of recordings, including opera arias with Denyce Graves and the Munich Radio Orchestra (RCA Red Seal) and Gallardo¬-Domâs, also with the Munich Radio Orchestra (Teldec). He has also featured on DVD recordings of Francesca da Rimini in Macerata with Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, The Barber of Seville with Teatro Regio di Parma, and Rossini’s La Gazzetta with Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona.
Before becoming a conductor he enjoyed a successful career as a singer, and sung the role of Gaston in Franco Zeffirelli’s film of La Traviata.
