MELODY WILSON – mezzo soprano
Melody Wilson recently returned to Opera Theater of St Louis to cover Denyse Graves as Emelda in the world premiere of Terence Blanchard’s Champion, and to Opera Delaware to sing The Third Lady in Zauberfloete. She was also the mezzo soloist in the Beethoven 9th Symphony with the Hartford Symphony and traveled to Slovakia to sing Berlioz’ Les Nuits d’ete with the Slovak States Philharmonic and a solo recital at the US Embassy in Bratislava. She was also a featured soloist in a concert entitled Las Voces de Monserrat Caballe in Zaragosa.
She recently was seen as Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Michigan and as Flora in La Traviata with Opera Delaware, where she has also sung The Pirates of Penzance, The Ghosts of Versailles, and Carmen. As a young artist with Opera Theatre of St Louis she also covered Suzuki in Madama Butterfly and the Page in Salome with Opera North.
In addition to her concerts in Slovakia, she was also the also soloist in Haydn’s Theresienmesse in Wexford, and in the Beethoven 9th with the Kennett Square Symphony. She has sung the Sacred Music of Duke Ellington at the Wilmington Jazz Festival and appeared in recital at the Weidner Center in Wisconsin.
Ms. Wilson is a five time recipient of the Jessye Norman fellowship, a winner of the International Czech and Slovak Competition, the Annapolis Vocal Competition, the Irma Cooper Competition and the Austrian American Society of Delaware. She received her undergraduate degrees in Music and Spanish from the University of Delaware and 2 graduate degrees in Music from the University of Michigan.
