Thor Arbjornsson has been hailed by Opera News as a “perfect fit in the title role [Le Comte Ory]… a sweetly lyrical tenor that never sounded strained, regardless of the vocal gyrations the role demands.  This beautiful voice, coupled with his acting prowess, allowed him to give a most engaging depiction.”

Singing the title role in Le Comte Ory in his company debut with LoftOpera capped an exciting 2015/2016 season for Mr. Arbjornsson.  The season began with the 21st Annual Bel Canto Opera Concert in Massachusetts with Maestro Eve Queler, which was later reprised in New York City as Eve Queler and Friends.  Mr. Arbjornsson went on to sing a lead role in the premier of Sheila Silver’s operatic adaptation of the New York Times bestseller, A Thousand Splendid Suns.  The show’s first act premiered in Key West, and excerpts were performed with full orchestra at the New Opera Showcase in New York City.  Demonstrating his flexible talent and broad appeal, Mr. Arbjornsson also performed in the Florida tour of Best of MGM Musicals and lent his voice to the performance of FIVE with artist Rashaad Newsome at the reopening of SFMOMA.

Mr. Arbjornsson includes in his repertoire such roles as Ferrando in Cosi Fan Tutte, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Nemorino in L’Elisir d’Amore, Chevalier de la Force in Dialogues des Carmelites, Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Lindoro in L’Italiana in Algeri, Paolino in Il Matrimonio Segreto, Le Matelot in Le Pauvre Matelot, Brighella in Ariadne auf Naxos, Alfredo in La Traviata, and Camille in The Merry Widow.  He has been a Studio Artist with Sarasota Opera, an Opera Tampa New Artist, and an Apprentice Artist with The Santa Fe Opera.  He was also a Fellow with the Aspen Music Festival and with Music Academy of the West.

Mr. Arbjornsson made his US debut with the Cleveland Orchestra in Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol under Pierre Boulez.

A frequent performer of oratorio and concert repertoire, Mr. Arbjornsson made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2015 as a soloist in Schubert’s Mass No. 2 in G Major and Mozart’s Missa Brevis in C Major.  His oratorio repertoire includes Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Magnificat, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Mozart´s Requiem and Coronation Mass, Honegger’s Kind David , Orff’s Carmina Burana, Rossini´s Petite Messe Solenelle, Schubert’s Mass in E-Flat Major, and Dubois´ Seven Last Words of Christ.  He also performed in Attila Glatz Concert Productions’ New Year’s Concerts in the US and Canada, and sang in Bach’s Coffee Cantata with Apollo’s Fire in Cleveland and Aspen.  As a ‘crossover’ artist, Mr. Arbjornsson sang over 200 performances of popular Italian songs, arias, and Broadway songs at Lowes Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando.

A native of Iceland, Mr. Arbjornsson began his musical studies at the conservatory of Austur-Herad in Egilsstadir.  He came to the US to study with Salvatore Champagne, completing his Bachelor of Music degree at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
