FLORENCIA MACHADO – mezzo soprano

Ms Machado recently won the 1st prize at the “Teatro Colón International Singing Competition” and she has also received the special prize for “The New Generation” in the Oscar della Lirica Opera Awards 2012 in Torre del Lago, Italy. There she sang an orchestra concert with C. Albelo, D. Theodossiou, Sonia Ganassi and I. Adbrazakov. This award was organized by “Fondazione Verona per l’Arena” and “Fondazione Puccini.” She has won the 2nd prize at the “VII Concurso Internacional “Pau Casals” in Rosario, Argentina and the 1st prize at the “Concurso Mozarteum” in Santa Fe, Argentina and 1st prize at the “Concurso Somaschini” in Rosario. She’s also participated in the final rounds of “Neue Stimmen” competiton; “Competizione dell’opera italiana”in Germany and “Belvedere Singing Competition”.

Ms. Machado made her first stage appearance with 16 years as “Pastore” (Tosca) in “El Círculo” Theater, Rosario, Argentina. There she also sang in the production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia, 2003). In Buenos Aires she sang “Nicklausse” and “Antonia’s mother” (Les Contes d’Hoffmann, 2005), “Mercedes” (Carmen, 2006), Valetto, Fortuna , Pallade -cover-(L’incoronazione di Poppea, 2006) Meg (Falstaff, 2006), Siebel -cover- (Faust, 2006), “Venere” (Ballo delle Ingrate-Monteverdi, 2007), “L’écureil” and “ La Chatte ” (L’enfant et les sortilèges, 2007), “Zulma” (L’italiana in Algeri, 2008), Zerlina -cover- (Don Giovanni, 2008), Suzuki -cover- (Madama Butterfly, 2010) at “Teatro Avenida”, Buenos Aires, Argentina and “Frasquita”-cover. (Carmen, 2011) and “Suor Infermiera” (Suor Angelica, 2011) -  For the “Teatro Colón Chamber Opera” she sang Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater (2008) “Lissetta” (Il Mondo della Luna, 2008)  with the “Teatro Argentino de la Plata” she sang Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater (2009) , Maddalena (Rigoletto, 2010) and Flosshilde (Rheingold 2012)

More recently she sang sang “2nd Lady” (Die Zauberflöte, 2011),“Maestra delle novizie” (Il Trittico, 2011), “Tisbe” and cover title role (Cenerentola) and “Selene” (Fedra), world premiere by Mario Perusso at the Teatro Colon, “Adalgisa” (Norma, 2012) in Teatro Coliseo and “Frasquita” in the new production of Carmen at Opernfestspiele St. Margarethen, Austria and in 2013 she will perform “Mercedes” (Carmen) with Teatro Colón, "Melibea" (Viaggio a Reims) with Teatro Argentino de La Plata, “Fenena” (Nabucco) with Buenos Aires Lirica, “Cherubino” (Le Nozze di Figaro) with Teatro Colón and “Geo”  in the worldwide premiere of Bebe Dom by Mario Perusso with Teatro Colón.

In 2011, Ms. Machado graduated from “Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón” in Buenos Aires, Argentina and she is actually taking the Improving Course there. In 2007 she graduated with honors from the “Escuela de Música de la Universidad Nacional de Rosario” (School of Music of the National University of Rosario) as a Bachelor and Professor in Lyric Singing. There, she also studied piano and pipe organ, with her father, Luis Ángel Machado. In 2003 she granted a scholarship to study Italian, French and German chamber repertoire with Guillermo Opitz in Buenos Aires.
